In Roman mythology, Hercules was a demigod who killed his wife and children after Hera, queen of the gods, had driven him mad. As penance, Hercules served King Eurystheus for 12 years, performing a series of difficult feats called The Twelve Labors.
Mike saw the story as a journey of self-discovery to overcome and find his true self.

In his 12 Labors, Mike undergoes extreme endurance challenges, with each challenge being more difficult than the last, to raise money for causes that mean something to him. Here are the labors that he’s completed so far:
Labor 1: In 2013, Mike ran 50 km to raise money for children’s cancer research. He made it harder by strapping on a 40-pound vest, which symbolized the weight of a child battling cancer.
Labor 2: 5,804 pull-ups in 24 hours with a 30lbs vest. In 2014, Mike sought out to beat the world record for most pull-ups in 24 hours which was 4,030 (David Goggins’ record). During his first attempt he failed as he tore his biceps and muscles in his forearms. On his second attempt in 2015, he decided to wear a 30lbs vest and broke the record doing 5,804 pull-ups in 24 hours.
Labor 3: Flipped a 250 lb tire for 13 miles. Later in 2014, Mike flipped a 250 lb tire for 13 miles, the day after losing his father. He flipped the tire across a 500 foot stretch of pavement 137 times, equaling the 13 miles.
Labor 4: Rope climbed the height of Mount Everest (29,029ft). In 2015, Mike climbed a 20ft rope 1,450 times to equal the height of Mount Everest, the tallest mountain in the world at 29,029ft in 27 hours.
Labor 5: Pulled an F-150 truck for 22 in Death Valley. In 2016, Mike pulled an F-150 truck for 22 miles in Death Valley to bring awareness to Veteran Suicide, as an estimated 22 veterans take their own lives every day.
Labor 6: Ran 20 miles for 100 consecutive days. After being told that he doesn’t have endurance, Mike decided to run 20 miles everyday for 100 consecutive days.
Labor 7: Pulled a truck in the arctic circle for 10 miles wearing 50 lbs of chains. Shortly after Mikes 100 days of 20 mile runs. He went to the arctic circle and pulled another truck, but this time in the freezing cold for 10 miles while wearing 50 lbs of chains on his body.
Labor 8: World record for longest full-body immersion in ice (2h 40min). In 2021, Mike broke Wim Hof’s world record for longest full-body immersion in ice which was 2 hours and 40 minutes.
Labor 9: Mike’s Next Planned Labor: Mike plans to swim across the seven seas of the ancient world while pulling a 10-ton ship with a harness.
The Lesson
Mike demonstrates that societal and self-imposed limitations do not exist.
They are just illusions that we contain our true potential in.
We can accomplish amazing feats, especially when we have a strong “why” and purpose for pursuing these feats. In all of his labors, Mike had a cause that had a special place in his heart.
That gave him strength for these labors.
